Make Your Staycation Feel Like a Real Vacation 🌴

Hi friends,

I hope your 2025 is off to a fabulous start!

My husband and I recently celebrated 12 years of marriage. 🥂 I still can’t believe it’s been that long—it feels like just yesterday we were navigating the chaos of our quirky wedding day (if you haven’t read my post about it, you can check it out here). That day was the start of our travel adventures together, and I couldn’t imagine doing it all with anyone else. 💕

Speaking of adventures, I know this time of year can feel a little...meh. The holidays are over, the weather can be gloomy, and, let’s be honest, planning a big trip might not be in the cards for everyone right now. But that doesn’t mean you can’t create the magic of a getaway from the comfort of your own home!

Staycation Ideas That Feel Like a Vacation

If you’re itching for an escape but not ready to hop on a plane, here are some fun ways to turn your home into a mini-retreat:

  1. Set the Scene:
Create a vacation vibe by changing your surroundings. Light tropical-scented candles, play a beachy Spotify playlist (steel drums, anyone?), and break out that sarong or comfy resort wear. Even small changes—like rearranging your living space or adding fresh flowers—can make a difference. I ended up buying a couple of new plants to freshen up my living room and also made a terrarium.
  2. Plan a Themed Meal or Happy Hour:
Cook a meal inspired by your dream destination, or make it a fun project to try new recipes. Think homemade margaritas and tacos for a “trip” to Mexico or pasta and wine for a cozy Italian evening. Bonus: No jet lag involved!
  3. Treat Yourself to Luxurious Comforts:
Make your home feel like a fancy hotel by splurging on little luxuries: fluffy bathrobes, nice sheets, and breakfast in bed. Or create an at-home spa day with face masks, foot soaks, and calming essential oils.
  4. Be a Tourist in Your Own Town:
Find nearby attractions you’ve never visited. Whether it’s a museum, a cute café, or a walking trail, playing tourist can give you a fresh perspective on your own city or state. For example, Elkhart Lake is a local destination I had a great time at over the winter! The Aspira Spa there is fabulous.
  5. Disconnect for a Day:
Put your phone on “Do Not Disturb,” skip the news, and focus on being present. Read a book, watch travel documentaries, or take a long bath. (If you need book inspiration, here are a few of my all-time faves.)

Hi Reader, It’s been a minute! The past month has been a whirlwind—I had a last-minute opportunity to explore the Dalarna region of Sweden (so charming! More content on that coming soon), I’ve been gearing up for my Galapagos group trip next month, and, unfortunately, dealing with some migraines that really slowed me down. (Does anyone else deal with migraines at this time of year?! So frustrating.) But anywho, I still managed to put together some fun new content! ✈️ New Travel & Style Posts...

Happy New Year Reader! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and are easing into 2025 feeling refreshed. I spent a nice, quiet break at home with family and friends, and it was just what I needed. I don't want to take down my tree yet... and Pippa doesn't want me to either lol. Christmas brought some fun surprises! My husband gifted me a new Samsung monitor, and I’m absolutely loving it (check it out below). I also treated myself to a Garmin watch, which has been an instant obsession. I...

Hi Reader, I hope you’re having a festive and fun week! I celebrated my birthday on Sunday, but truthfully, having a birthday this close to Christmas means I rarely want to do much on the actual day. My social battery is already at zero (introvert problems, right?). My husband and I laid low, and we’re treating ourselves to a couple’s massage after Christmas instead. I also met up with my friend Shannon this week for a wonderful lunch celebration at Mill City Public House in Appleton (get...
