Before You Cook Tomorrow… A Quick Thanksgiving PSA

Hi friends,

If you’re celebrating, I hope you’re gearing up for a relaxing Thanksgiving tomorrow... or at least one with minimal kitchen chaos.

Quick PSA before the big cooking day: watch out for AI-generated recipes floating around online. I fell for two of them on Pinterest recently, and while they looked totally normal at first glance, they turned out absolutely disgusting. In hindsight, the red flags were obvious: they had generic intro language, overly polished photos, weird formatting, no ads (real food blogs always have ads), no comments, and an “About Me” page that might as well have been written by ChatGPT wearing sunglasses. But hey, I was in a rush and just wanted an easy and quick recipe! Lesson learned.

Bloomberg actually covered this whole issue, and this archived link works without the paywall: https://archive.ph/yL9XY

If you want something to read while you’re procrastinating on prep (or hiding from it), here are a bunch of new pieces I’ve published:

If you end up making something amazing tomorrow, hit reply and tell me what you cooked! I love seeing what everyone makes for the holidays. And if you’ve personally run into any AI-recipe fails… please tell me I’m not alone.

Feel free to forward this to anyone who might need last-minute shopping help (or a heads-up to double-check those Pinterest recipes).

And a quick reminder — my Amazon gift card giveaway is still going strong if you haven’t jumped in yet.

Wishing you a smooth, delicious, AI-recipe-free Thanksgiving tomorrow!

Hi friends, Hope everyone survived the inbox mayhem over the past week! I’m keeping things very low-key today — just a quick note with something fun I’ve been working on. I finally published my Fun Things to Do in Chicago for First-Time Visitors guide. If you’re planning a trip (or just daydreaming about one), this one breaks down the best views, neighborhoods, museums, food stops, and a few places people usually overlook. And here’s the new YouTube video: Chicago tip of the day: Don’t sleep...

Hey friends, I know your inbox is probably drowning in Cyber Monday emails, so I’m keeping this short and only sharing the things that are genuinely worth your time. First — a quick reminder: only buy what you actually need. A sale is only a deal if it’s something you’ll truly use. Otherwise, it eats up your budget, your space, and eventually ends up in a landfill. We all work too hard for that. Here’s the quick little gut-check I use before I buy anything today: Would I buy this at full...

Hey friends! The $150 Amazon gift card giveaway got so much love that I figured… why not run one more before the holidays hit full speed? I’m giving away another $100 Amazon gift card, and the new entry widget is right at the bottom of the same post, just above the previous one. This one runs until December 11, 2025. Good luck — truly hoping it lands in the hands of someone who could use a little extra holiday boost. Enter here! Also, thank you for all the kind replies to the last newsletter....
